Tonight i read about the use of Podcasting in education or using a audio file to learn from instead of reading new material. For me listening to text being read to me or a lecture recorded earlier could help me learn. The article I read tonight could have been done as a podcast, and I think i would have been able to get through it faster, and possible learned more. I generally prefer to listen to a lecture then read for learning. Sometime I have to read a paragraph over because I just can't focus, this happened while reading this article.
At my High school we are developing a plan to get tests recorded or read to students that need help reading or just comprehending the information. I have known several students that would benefit from listening instead of reading. One of our Math teachers has gone to recording his lectures having the students listen/watch the lectures at home and then the do the work in class. Some students love it others do not, I think podcasting could be very beneficial to some and not as much to others. J After reading the article on generation always on, I agree with the statement that their will be a mix between really good things that happen and really bad things. I belive that
Learned how to use a photo sharing site tonight and find free photos. Also did not know that you can edit photos and have some fun plus then link it into your blog, but hey I did it. I would say it seamed strait forward, But I ran into a slight problem, that took longer then it should have to share the photos from Flicker into my web page, once I figured out to change the formate of the HTML all was good.
J After reading about the history of blogs in education it appears to be a good way to connect to online students. I took a few health education classes in 2008 online and we had to do some discussion posts, I did not really like them however reading other peoples thoughts do help you generate your own. I can also see how creating you r own post will help you think a little deeper about your own thoughts.
J After watching the video on strengths by Marcus Buckingham, I am trying to decide what my strengths are and more importantly how do I make them even stronger. I have thought about my weakness more then my strengths and have never put a lot of effort into making them better, because it is not fun to work on weakness, and I think that was his point. One of my biggest weakness is writing, and english, and I have avoided writhing papers all my life. (yes it is a bit of a concern for me as I start my grad work) My strengths are I am easy going and can relate to almost anybody, this has allowed me to make connections with students easily and helps me talk to students and look for answers to their problems.
I freely admit that posting stuff on the web has not been of interest to me, I have never used facebook, and had very little use of my twitter account. I am a little worried about getting caught up in posting and reading of social media. I see high school students daily that are so busy and caught up in what is happing on their phone or tablet, that they miss things happening right in front of their face. On the other hand having a web presence would make sense so when you need to someone can look up and see what you are all about. Learning about web based tech that I have avoided at time will help me connect with my students in new ways.
